The meteorite that created these fragments crashed in the
Arizona desert in what is now called Meteor Crater. Some
of the fragments, like the one shown here, were found a
few miles west in Canyon Diablo. This Canyon Diablo
Meteorite is approximately 3-1/4" by 2-1/8" by 1-3/4" and
weighs 650 grams. It has angular protrusions and the
dark brown fusion crust shows a few visible regmaglypts
(shallow, elongated depressions), which are common to
iron meteorites. The rust spots you see are caused by
