This Large Agate and Quartz Geode from Brazil has been cut
in half to reveal the intriguing and beautiful interior,
which is one of Mother Nature's mysteries. The term geode
means "shape of the Earth" and refers to geodes'
spherical shape. Geodes are formed over millions of
years in volcanic or sedimentary environments. Hollow
cavities fill with supersaturated fluids rich in silica
and other minerals, which over time become crystallized.
The crystalline material is usually harder than the host
rock, which erodes, leaving geodes behind. Typical
minerals found in geodes include quartz, chalcedony,
calcite, and selenite.
This exceptional Agate & Quartz Geode Half
measures approximately 7" wide, 3-3/4" tall, and 4-1/2" deep.
The geode displays a clear agate starburst that is surrounded by
bands of brown, clear, and a milky white.
The center cavity is filled with quartz crystals that really
