Our 16" strand of Round Ruby Beads holds approximately 82 top-to-bottom drilled beads, each about 4.5-5mm in diameter. Rubies are a red gemstone, a part of the corundum (aluminium oxide) family, in which the color is caused mainly by chromium. On the Moh's hardness scale rubies have a hardness of 9, and among the natural gems, rubies are only surpassed in hardness by diamonds. Another gemstone quality corundum is the sapphire.
