A number of minerals contain trace elements that will
fluoresce when illuminated by ultraviolet light. Up to 90%
of these minerals will reveal their vivid colors under
short-wave ultraviolet. Small (1-1/2" by 6-1/2" by 1-1/2") and
lightweight, this handheld, battery-operated short-wave
ultraviolet lamp is perfect for all your rockhounding
trips and even has a carrying strap. Even after the trip
is over, you'll be able to use your lamp to enjoy and
display your great finds!
Extra care should be taken in the use of short-wave ultraviolet lamps,
especially around children, because it is short-wave
ultraviolet light that causes sunburn. Please note: battery-operated
UV lamps will illuminate to a distance of 2-3" and a circumference
of 1-2", depending upon conditions. If you need a stronger
lamp, try a Rechargeable Short-Wave Lamp. Requires 4 AA
