Iron Pyrite has a warm yellow color, it's metallic, and it
glitters and sparkles like gold, which is why it's commonly
called "fool's gold." Pyrite is an iron sulfide generated
by sulphur reacting with iron present in sedimentary rock
(limestone & sandstone) in a reducing environment. These
rocks were formed approximately 125 - 130 million years
ago in the same geological environment as the Jurassic
sediments present in the La Rioja Province in Spain. Fossil
dinosaur tracks are also commonly found in the rocks of
this region.
The specimen of Pyrite Crystals in
Marl (a combination of clay and calcium carbonate) you
receive will measure from 1-7/8 to 2-3/4" long by 1-1/4
to 2-1/2" wide and display at least two to three Pyrite
cubes, from approximately 1/8" to 1/2" cubed. It will be
similar in structure and appearance to the ones shown
in the above photo. Use it as a Feng Shui element,
decorator piece, or unique addition to your mineral
collection. Scroll down to view Related Products.
