The banded and bulls-eyed, light and deep green of this very popular mineral has earned it the name Malachite, for the Greek word for "mallow," a green herb. Typically seen in a massive botryoidal (resembling a cluster of grapes) form, as in our Malachite freeforms, the fibrous form of Malachite (copper carbonate hydroxide) is actually formed of conical groupings of needle-shaped crystals and is far less common. The play of light on the tiny crystals creates the appearance of velvet, which, grouped with the deep green of this specimen, is breathtaking!
These specimens are from the Luisha Mine in the \r\nDemocratic Republic of Congo and measures approximately 1" by 3/4" by 5/8". You will receive a formation that is similar in size and appearance to the one shown above. Scroll down to view Related Products.
