As beautiful and brilliant green as emerald, Dioptase
(copper silicate hydroxide) is, unfortunately, too soft
(5 Mohs) for practical use as a gemstone. Though it is
not often set in jewelry, this mineral makes a
spectacular specimen for display and is also known as a
powerful healing stone. As with many deep green minerals,
Dioptase is a silicate of copper and forms well-developed
rhombohedral crystals with vitreous luster.
The exquisite specimens we offer are from
Altyn Tjube, Kasakhstan and measure approximately 3/4 to 1" long, 1/2 to 5/8" wide, and 3/8 to 1/2" high. Crystals vary in size from 1/16 to 1/8" by 1/16 to 1/8" by 1/16 to 1/8". The dioptase you receive will be similar
