Nantan meteorite fragments come from the Giuangxi Province
of China, where the Nantan Meteorite fell in 1516 -- about
485 years ago! Because of the humid climate where this
meteor struck, the outer, melted layer of each fragment has
broken away, revealing its core. The octahedral
crystallization of the iron can be seen clearly, making
these very interesting-looking specimens. Nantan meteorites
contain 92.35% iron, 7% nickel, and at least 30
other minerals and trace elements (including several rare
minerals).
The Nantan Meteorite we offer here weighs
292g (8.18 ounces) and measures 2-1/2" long, 1-5/8" wide,
and 3/4" high. It has been polished to display both its
crystallized structure and metallic composition to best
