Our Minnesota Pipestone (Catlinite) Rough Rock is a beautiful, deep rose-red. Catlinite -- a soft red siltstone named after the 19th century American artist, George Catlin -- occurs as outcrops in southwestern Minnesota. Native American artists create objects (bowls, pipes, totems) from Pipestone for ceremonial use and for sale. While Minnesota Pipestone is very soft (Moh's hardness of 1-1/2 to 2), it holds a
