Tanzanite, a zoisite, is a very special and unique gemstone. Its breathtaking blue color shimmers with a purplish hue. This precious gem occurs only in Tanzania, Africa, from which it gets its name. Because of its unusual color and rarity, it quickly became one of the most sought-after and popular gemstones in the world. Tanzanite was added as an additional birthstone for December by the American Gem Trade Association in October 2002. So this little treasure won't easily be lost, it comes in a 1-5/8" x 2-1/4" black velvet drawstring pouch. Although size and shape will vary -- from approximately 1/4" wide, 3/8" to 1/2" long, and 3/16" to 3/8" high -- the gem you receive will weigh between 0.6 to 0.9 grams.
