This fossilized Orthoceras Plaque, which measures 8" by
7" by 1-1/4", highlights five (5) Orthoceras in
relief. The fossilized structures -- hand-polished to show the amazing organic structures of the animals -- are preserved in black
marble and white calcite in an etched matrix of the same material. Our Orthoceras Plaques, with
their dramatic black and white coloring, are very
popular pieces for both home design and geological
collections.
Orthoceras are extinct cephalopods that
lived in the ocean which once covered the Sahara Desert
about 400 million years ago (during the Devonian period).
The modern-day squid, octopus, and chambered nautilus
