Mineralogy: Fluorite is a halide mineral composed of calcium fluoride. It commonly occurs in vein deposits with metallic minerals such as lead and zinc but can occur with other minerals as well. It has several different crystal habits. The cube is the most common followed by the octahedron. Fluorite has a hardness of 4 and forms in a variety of colors including white, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink, brown and bluish black.
