Mineralogy: The term "Jade" is used to describe durable stone used across many cultures to make carvings and tools. Jade as we know it is not one specific type of mineral. It is identified by two categories being Jadeite and Nephrite. Although they look very similar they have their own unique chemistry makeup. Nephrite is a magnesium-rich amphibole composed of actinolite and tremolite minerals. Jadeite is aluminum-rich pyroxene. They are both formed through metamorphism.
